Civilian heroes on the Fen home front

We know that we have soldier heroes 'over there' in Afghanistan, but please spare a thought also for the civilian heroes on the Fen home front. This picture was taken this afternoon as carrots, carefully earthed up before the winter frosts and snows really set in, were being lifted from the black and fertile land in Swaffham Prior Fen. These heroes were doing a thoroughly professional job and I assume that their produce will be in the London market - New Covent Garden - before many hours have passed. When the going gets tough in the Fens, the Fen folk get going. They never surrender - to the cold or to anything else.
